Whoo! My bi-yearly icon change around. I still need a few more I think. Something slashy, switch around the Pokemon one, another cute thing and maybe either something shiny and sciency.

ANYWAY. The episode.

Which had gloriously Neil Gaiman-y music even. )

Things that I am glad for from this episode. )

As a consequence of the TARDIS being put into a human, I now kind of ship... well, what I said in the title. Also, my hair can do crazy. We all know what that means. )

Tangentally, if I were to have a ride in the TARDIS... )

The unrelated bits at the end:
I keep hearing dubstep in TV programs. This is somewhat disconcerting, as it's a very NOT mainstream kind of genre. Except it kind of is, but not... it's somewhere between popular and obscure and bits of it float through and those floating through bits mystify me. Especially because they're original bits of dubstep, not dubstep mixes of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory songs or the lines the turrets say or Nyancat.

There should be a "I Want You Gone" and a "The Humans are Dead" mashup. I keep listening to the former and partway through singing "Binary solo! Zero zero one." during an instrumental bit.

First things first. I made this bag right at the beginning of the year.
I use it every day now, pretty much. )

Did you notice the buttons? No? Well, I got a whole bunch of neat ones. That I will show you.
I hope you don't have koumpounophobia. )

I promised photos of Tanpopo's cage progress. It's gotten a bit further than this, but it's pretty much permanently stalled at the moment...
I have not witty cut text for this. Really. )

And now for something completely different.
I have a DS lite. It was getting scratched up in my handbag (as seen above) so I made a case for it.
This is vaguely a step-by-step... )

The next project I did was because the bags we get given (for free) at course are ugly and everyone knows what type of course you're doing because they have the school emblazoned on the front.
Cut, because they really are ugly. As is the carpet. )

Cake. Sponge. Cream. Jam. Pink Lemonade. I haven't really taken any more pictures of things I've made. (That are on my laptop.)
Those photos are a lie, but not this cake! )
grassangel: (reading)
So, today was mostly spent in town with friends. Followed by an hour long talk/reading session by Neil Gaiman
Well, that and two and half hours spent waiting in line to get my copy of Coraline signed by said author. But now I have a picture of a rat drawn in that book and the possibilty that I slightly bewildered an author by thanking him for signing my book.

So I am happy and more than a bit tired and seriously considering bringing three litres of water as some people recommend when attending a fan gathering because I had a headache until I had some panadol half an hour ago.

And hoping very fervently that Neil Gaiman will come visit Wellington again and maybe talk about different stuff and read new things.

The next big fanthing that I will be possibly attending (but only if people (AKA friends, not just people I reconise from the cosplay picnic) I know are going) will be Armageddon, the local convention-like event. (It's officially an expo and most of the main floor is vendors. But it seems to be better this year, with more events organised, especially THREE cosplay ones.)
I am tempted to make a cosplay to make it worthwhile (Toeto version of Megurine Luka) but sewing and finding wig makes me just think that I may just finish my cat ears properly.

So, tommorrow is that second to last assessment.

Steak, beans and pommes marquise.

Wish me luck~

[livejournal.com profile] shadowsinfire I may finish early, in which case, do you want to meet up during your free period?

Also, is anyone free and wanting to meet up on the 13th in town? I have to make my own way in and it'll be WEIRD just going in for 5:30. So does anyone want to meet up during the day? (And possibly track down slightly cheaper tickets to the talk?)

Neil Gaiman.
Is. Writing. (Or has written)
A DOCTOR WHO EPISODE.

*dies from fangirly glee*

So, so, so need to get those writers week talk tickets.
grassangel: (shut up - I'm reading)
http://jacobella.com/

What it is a site for those dorky baby/pet print sets. However, that has to be one of the most unfortunate website name/website design combination I have ever come across. (The site owner gives a little blurb about why it's named 'jacobella' but really, the name and header had me going D: for a moment as to why a Twilight-related site was linked to in a fairly serious craft blog.)

Anyway... I passed my assessment on Monday. 84% or so. So yay!
Next week is fairly messed up schedule wise though. Two days 2:00pm to 8:00pm and two days 8:00am to 2:00pm.
Then the week after that is a mixture of production kitchen and front of house. Fun.

In slightly more exciting news, Neil Gaiman is coming to New Zealand!
TO WELLINGTON!
Here's the link to the event details.
I shall have to see if I can make it at all, but either way, I'm still excited a FAVOURITE author is coming to New Zealand, to WELLINGTON even.

In yet more fandom related news, I'm right now composing a enquiry feedback form thing for TVNZ as they still haven't aired Torchwood: CoE three months after it's airdate in the UK and about seven months after they said they would when I sent my first feedback form to them.

This is my query... and I'll let you know when I get a response. )

Yes, I know I am being rather persistent in hounding them... )

So... Neil Gaiman tweeted about this BBC Audiobooks America (I was all "Bebecaw-what?" for a moment before I realised it was BBC America. Which I find odd in itself, because America was all "Noooo! They be taking away our libertiez!" three hundred or so years ago but now some are going "Fuck yeah! Britain!" and slurping the culture up.) round-robin audiobook writing thing on Twitter. Not interested as I live on the other side of the world and thus TIME ZONES are my enemy, but I found it amusing I went 'Fuck no' at the Torchwood radio plays in the sidebar but went 'Oooh! Shiny' at the H2G2 one.

Unfortunately, I then looked over at my flist and saw a Bya/Ren fic being posted to at least three comms I follow and the Torchwood! No and Bleach slash combined and Renji's now bothering Ianto while Jack is befuddled by this person who is wholly focused on their paperwork and is TOTALLY SILENT AND IGNORING THE RENJI.

Slightly better than zombie pastry chefs but hey.
grassangel: (fish)

Well, it’s been quite the epic making this fishy. Constant re-evaluations of technique and plenty of thoughts of ‘What I would do next time’, though I hope there won’t be. (But way up on the top of that list would be to do the painting with an airbrush. Blending acrylics on a non-flat surface KILLED me.)

So, this first batch of pictures was taken in October last year. Several areas are simply blocked in for blending and some were completed.
When you see a cut, there is photos. Lots and lots of them )

These next ones were taken a couple of days later… I’d finished the blending on both sides of all the fins and was completing the last side’s blending.

Another cut... )

Then a couple month’s break and I’ve finished the blending and eyes and just left it there for a while.
After having a text conversation with [livejournal.com profile] shadowsinfire, I then changed my plan of painting scales on to just painting in Fishy’s stripes and adding the fin detail.

That’s what I completed two weeks ago. The below pictures are just copies of the ones I showed everyone, but this is an archive post…

A bit more numerous )

And then we have these photos, which are the fully completed and sealed ones of Fishy. They aren’t on a proper background and are only a few select photos, but still…
There’s nothing else for me to with it, aside from set up its display properly.

I TOOK A LOT OF PHOTOS. (And sorry about the glare, fignerprints and dust on Fishy.) )

grassangel: (Yuuko)

So, Neil Gaiman’s first comic that he wrote. Which, based upon some of his earlier stuff, as well as Dave McKean’s in general, I was expecting something much darker and grotesque.
Instead, I found myself reading something that nestled nicely between what little I know of the DC universe and a ‘superhero’ I rather liked.

Firstly, the art is really really pretty. There’s all these saturated colour inks and paint and then there are dark, gritty black and white graphite drawings. Nothing is inked in the traditional sense and while it can seem a bit ‘arty’, is also more organic, natural and soft, which reflects the story.

The story starts with the death of the first Black Orchid and the rise of consciousness in the second. )

Is it good bedtime reading as I tried to earlier in the week? Answer: The first part is and perhaps the last bit as well. But not the middle. The middle requires too much upper-brain functions for good bedtime reading.
Is it good reading otherwise? Yes.

It's a gorgeous poem and the reason why Neil Gaiman wrote it is wonderful too.
grassangel: (Default)
"For the record, if I don't get around to writing a sequel to something while I'm alive, I'd very much rather that nobody else does it once I'm dead. It should exist in your head or in Lucien's library, or in fanfic. But that's me, and not every author feels the same way."

Neil Gaiman, I love you so very much~

Except for the fact I am terribly irritated when I check a book out of Lucien's library and can't remember what it's about.
