Yum yum, sushi and cake

I know I said a couple of weeks ago I'd post the pictures of the home made sushi (the first I've made in... ten-eleven years?) but I was lazy and didn't bother getting the pictures off the camera for a while. So pictures and comments under the cuts.

If I recall correctly, I have tuna, cheese and egg; and tuna, egg, avocado and carrot. The one with cheese wasn't that good and the other kinda needed soy sauce. However, we were experimenting and maybe next time I'll have actually researched some fillings. Or thought about it more.

We had a lot of eggs in the school refridgerator, so I used seven to make two chiffon cakes.
Why chiffon cakes? Well apart from the geeky reason that Himawari had Watanuki make one for her in HOLiC after the window incident, I had been looking for angel foodcake recipes online and stumbled across the chiffon cake recipe.
And it was fun. :D
dawnduskdancer helped me and we had a good giggle over the whole chiffon cake thing. I had to stay about an hour later than I usually do though. I didn't look at the cooking time...
There was enough for 32 people as well, though about eight people had double servings.

This one was made at home, with a co-operating oven, nice big bowls and a familiar kitchen. The silicone tin didn't quite like me (I may need to leave it to cool for longer) but it still looked pretty good. (We need a cake box though...)
I made egg white + syrup icing though and that, plus the crumbs is what you see on that slice.
It was good~ It's also good with white chocolate spread.
I will cut down the recipe next time though, as well as leaving it to cool a bit longer. I will persevere until it's perfect. (Which means a lot of cake 0_0.) And... yes, when strawberries are in season, I will make a strawberry version.
I also baked some muffins and pie, but I'll take photos of them another time.

Date: 2008-06-23 12:20 pm (UTC)It's kind of like mousse in that you beat the egg white to get a meringue like mix and then add in the egg yolk mixture gently to keep the air in the egg whites.
It kinda tastes like a mixture between sponge (homemade) and madeira cake. Very nice. (But needs a topping to taste really good)
