Date: 2009-01-04 10:59 pm (UTC)I thought you knew. There are some tie-in versions of the novels (same text, but with Billie Piper on the cover) in Wellington Library. They've only done the first two but intend to adapt all four. As far as I know they've never aired in New Zealand and I don't even know if the DVDs are available here.

WHY does he look like Morpheus?

Date: 2009-01-05 09:54 am (UTC)I have faith in UKTV bringing them over, at some point. (If not some other channel because, come on, it's PHILLIP PULLMAN. Even if most people go 'Oh, Northern Lights writer'.)

Date: 2009-01-05 08:04 pm (UTC)Maybe its just not a great picture.
I've been thinking of netflixing all the Dr. Who seasons and watching it from the beginning. I loved the season with Christopher Eccleston. What was he? The 9th doctor?
(what is Ruby in the Smoke?)

Also do you have any Circle of Magic fic recs? No cross-circle (obvsly).

Date: 2009-01-06 01:25 am (UTC)Hahaha, I think I'd laugh too if that happened. (Which begs the question, what will the Doctor wear in this incarnation?)
I don't regularly read Circle fic. There's 1 in my ff.net favourites that's supposed to be Briar/Tris but I found was very easy to read as friendship fic.
There's also this (http://whiteshark.livejournal.com/14566.html) which is a depressing and short Sandry fic.

Date: 2009-01-06 01:30 am (UTC)Yup, Eccleston was the 9th doctor.
Ruby in the Smoke is the first book in the Sally Lockhart mysteries written by Phillip Pullman. They're set in Victorian London although they do tend to concern other countries as well. (The first book concerns Chinese triad gangs and opium dens.)
A considerable bit darker than His Dark Materials series.

Date: 2009-01-06 02:19 am (UTC)And sorry to say I've never actually heard of Phillip Pullman outside of this post and the comments on it. :\

Date: 2009-01-06 04:35 am (UTC)I don't like that fic ): too sad +I don't think it's exactly in character. Cannot imagine any of them actually wanting to die. I'll look up the one in your favourites.

Date: 2009-01-06 09:23 am (UTC)Well, at least we have one thing to look forward to, the new Doctor's wardrobe!
The other fic may be a bit too shippy for your tastes, I don't know. (The LJ one was pretty much "Oh hay! There's one in my memories. LINK"

Date: 2009-01-06 09:01 pm (UTC)But I never knew who wrote it before. I'll be certain to stay away from his books then.

Date: 2009-01-07 04:52 am (UTC)Even if you do disagree with his religious views, he is a good writer and his children's books are entertaining (and don't contain a bit of 'religious proproganda' although they perhaps contain a bit of feminism) and the Sally Lockhart Mysteries are ENTIRELY different from His Dark Materials trilogy. (Unless, again, you don't like a character being feminist in Victorian times or a character being rather liberal in their views.)

Date: 2009-01-07 07:24 am (UTC)Feminism doesn't bother me, but the anti-Christian elements in his other books do.
