Well, yesterday's attempt at donating blood did not go well.
Because they couldn't find a vein large enough for the needle.
So that sucks and I will have to try again another day and perhaps I should point out the nice large one on the outside of my left elbow that you can see without the pressure band. (I have some rather nice veins which show up green because they're right under my olive-y skin.)

Went to see The Curious case of Benjamin Button afterwards.
It wasn't bad per se, but I definitely wouldn't be cajoled into watching it again. Was another 'meh' movie, although a bit more meh than Twilight. You could at least talk about more things you liked/disliked in Twilight whereas the only things to gripe about with Benjamin Button were: it was a bit too long, Daisy's accent was annoying (it was... TOO Louisiannan), there were obvious shots of Brad Pitt for the fans and HOW THE HELL DID A THREE HOUR MOVIE COME FROM A SHORT STORY?
Not a recommendation from me then.

BUT. Not quite the purpose of this entry.

A couple of days ago, I asked a friend why he started reading, promising him that I would give him my answer when he responded. (I also said it'd likely be in blog format, as it'd take to long to type in an email and I figure that it'd also prove interesting to you lot.)

I started reading since before I can remember. Which is about three or so. (I'm fairly sure my two earliest memories, the cat towel and me eating soap were before then, but they're only tiny tiny little fragments of memories and I'm not sure if they count.)
I know, in the abstract way early memories are, my dad would read to me and that's how I learnt to read. I learnt to read before I could write, before I could even spell properly. And I really liked reading, because I could sit there for hours and just go through all my books and read them over and over.

I do have to say though that reading them over and over was more a comfort thing than anything else, because I also really liked new books. (I can remember in primary that I was devastated that I was only 'supposed' to read the orange stickered books from the reading room. They were obviously not that exciting.)

However, that isn't really answering the question, is it? My mum reads for information, which I certainly do not do. (She picks up a book, a fiction book, maybe once a year. Maybe more if it's something like Harry Potter and she's sick and has nothing better to do.) I like learning, but... not the sole purpose of reading.
Not sure what my dad reads for, except he likes the fantasy and science fiction too. (But yet gets my book tastes woefully wrong...)

I know I read for enjoyment and a little bit of escapism. A little tiny bit. It was a bit more when I was younger and really had nothing better to do.
However, I don't think it's just for enjoyment, it's also about different worlds and exploring them and that's probably why I like fanfiction so because it's more exploring!
I like new things as well, which is why I'm so disenchanted with adult fantasy. It's all quest stories and the same things over again. (Slightly off topic, but I think one of the reasons why in the 'transported to a magical land' stories, the transportee is never a reader or a write is because they KNOW all the little tricks to look out for and what needs to be done to complete the quest. It'd be no fun to read about someone ducking and weaving through all the trials.) I like things to be different. So I'll still be visiting the YA section for the fantasies~

So, um, I like exploring what I read. I like having to think a bit or have thoughts randomly pop out of nowhere because something reminds me of such and such.
I read because it's something I've always done, but I keep reading because I like exploring.

(Now, only if I could do that a bit more in real life...)
