Re: audio of Corambis' first chapter
Feb. 1st, 2009 02:36 amSo I still haven't finished The Mirador. Technically. But I listened anyway.
And as much as I love the voice Sarah Monette uses for Mildmay, he's still going to have the lovely 'uh' vowels in my head.
I squealed over Felix and Mildmay being more like brothers. It's so cute.
Wish I could drag Felix into a Montessori classroom though, just to show him Mildmay's intelligence is something beautiful.
OBSERVATION AND REASONING ARE AWESOME, OKAY?
Don't know why people are so 'That's what their ages are!' though. In Melusine, Mildmay observes Felix to be about 27. Mildmay drops enough clues about his age that you can figure him to be 20, almost 21.
What's more, by my reckoning, Felix is about 31/32 and Mildmay is 24/25 in Corambis. Give or take about half a year on either of their ages, possibly up to an entire year (for both my calculations and simple not knowing when their birthdays are).
The actual country/area of Corambis is scary though.
In Melusine and surrounding countryside, we've seen a general reluctance for magical torture and fairly good acceptance of social issues like people being homosexual, though fairly low levels of technology (up to about printing presses, clocks and some sort of plumbing).
But Corambis has TRAINS and other stuff we haven't heard about, but their standing on social issues is... rather low. We know it isn't a biggy for them to punish/do nasty things to wizards, but they apparently also abhor homosexuality.
This is going to be interesting.
And Mildmay and Felix are back in their journey arrangement of sharing a bed/blankets.
(This is actually quite amusing when Felix gets a flaily!nightmare.)
