Gyah - crossovers and food
Jul. 15th, 2008 01:09 amUnrelated topics by the way.
Anyway,
hikaru_9 posted some Indy+Ed art and got me thinking about crossovers. And plausibility clauses attached to crossovers. (By the way, Jack's been sharing, in description form, his favourite crossover fics at school. Usually involving HP/SG-1 crossovers for some reason....) Anyway, the plausibility clauses are like the excuses made for Mpreg. THEY'VE GOT TO BE GOOD.
So, naturally, things like CLAMP are EASY to crossover. (Hell, anything set in Tokyo or London is.) Same with one series being a universe hopping story (like His Dark Materials, Tsubasa, Dr. Who and Young Wizards) and the other being static. (I will mention that I have some half-formed Hansel and Gretal like fic-fragment involving Naruto-verse. This is only relevant because I watched the NZO performance of it tonight.)
Anyway, Dr. Who and Young Wizards is totally a crossover to be done. The Doctor could so be 'Oh, so you're good guys then!' at them. And pre-Roshaun Dairine would totally fall in love with him. Or the TARDIS. (In another meander, I got pissed at the blatant cross-referencing previous seasons in the opening of season 4 of New Who. Cross referencing is fun, but not when it's blatant.)
All world/universe hopping series need to be crossovered in my opinion. Except maybe SG-1 in the early seasons. However, some Young Wizard interventions wouldn't have gone amiss later on.
I must write that regeneration gone wrong fic. It may be hilarious, it may be in bad taste.
Also on the to-do list concerning Dr. Who fanfiction, a continuation of the FMA crossover which, I have decided, will contain some mention of Jack Harkness and how the brothers are lucky he's not there because Ed's so girly looking.
There was another crossover I had thought of... oh, yes, Keeping Up Appearances and Lily/Petunia's family in Harry Potter.

That is Waterloo station. This was taken a couple of days before or after I wrote that Air Gear drabble. Either in that context or not, the subway system to change platforms is awesome. (And doesn't stink of urine.)
Now to the real purpose of this post, the food piccys.

I made pie. Well, tart. Princess Custard tart to be exact. I'm not happy with it. It doesn't keep well, as the meringue gets soggy and the custard, while nice, is a bit stodgy paired with the pastry. I might make it again, but with a pre-baked shell and a cooked custard that I've beaten a bit as well as a last minute meringue top.

I like making butterscotch pie much better. The crust is pre-baked and I don't need to put it in the oven beyond that unless I'm doing the meringue top. It's good with the top on and without, which is why I like making it.
And it tastes soooo good. Made with good brown sugar and warmed up, it's lovely, especially when the butterscotch is done perfectly. (Sadly, that part is a bit hit and miss.)

This gorgeous cake is a chiffon cake. Buttercreamed and decorated with what we had on hand that didn't need refrigeration. (Not like mandarin segments...) It tastes even better with buttercream icing. And my dad agrees that the next step is to cut it into layers next time and fill those as well. With cream. (Rhi, I really wish there was a way to get dairy-free cream easily. Maybe that confectioners cream... which is a custard... *next project identified*) And maybe seasonal fruits.
YES. I PLAN TO DUPLICATE (to my best ability) HIMAWARI'S CAKE.
Anyway, this cake is almost completely demolished. Luckily though...

I had baked two cakes. One in the ring, one in the round.

I'm gonna ice this one today/this morning. Not going to be anywhere near as fancy, but still tasty.

That is the 'tin' of the ring cake after detinning. I'm decrumbing it to make a yummy yummy crumb mix which makes a good topping. That's the box to the side.
Uh... completely random, but would people appreciate it if I shared the wheat and/or dairy and/or egg free recipes/versions I have of some of these recipes? (I have a really yummy milk-less milk shake recipe involving that seasame cake that I've forgotten the name of.) They're two ice cream recipes (which taste good) and a couple of other recipes which are some variant of free.
I need to make some roulades... they look fun.
Anyway,

Date: 2008-07-14 10:53 pm (UTC)I hear from several sources that there is a CANON Dr. Who crossover in High Wizardry. When Dairine's fleeing from the bug-eyed monsters at the Crossings, she meets the fifth Doctor and he creates a diversion for her by acting drunk.
