grassangel: a pastel and cute cat balancing a multi-coloured ball on its head (Orihime)

Another one of those novelisation dealies. Not as exciting as the last one however, and definitely does not contain genderswitch.

My dad did like it though, because it moved quickly. It did move quickly but I felt it didn’t have that much substance.
Although the ending was rather fun. (Except, again, it wasn’t brilliant and they killed the alien rather mundanely.)

I think it had something to do with the characters being used to prop up the story weren’t really interesting nor given any characterisation. Dr. Strong is given a couple of paragraphs when he’s first introduced and that’s it. Okay, so some additional information is given about him, but nothing much.
They suffer a bit from the whole “Not an actor” thing which original characters in novelisations tend to get.

The main Torchwood cast was written as well as was expected, although there wasn’t as much flirting between Jack and Ianto. I counted only about five or so instances. I thought it a bit weird, especially since this is set between 2x03 and 2x04.

Umm… so not quite as good as the other one I read.
Now! Comment-y things!

*obligatory English comment about how Welsh doesn’t have any vowels, so how can you have Welsh accented vowels?*

I have to giggle a bit at how Gwen thinks chronons are chronic somethings. Which I suppose makes sense, if neutrons are neutral, chronons must be chronic. (Except I much prefer temporal as referring to things to do with time. Temporons!)

I was amused at the blatant ripping of folklore, with Jenny Greenteeths everywhere. Also, they are not grindylows. (I was disappointed that Tosh didn’t get to mention kappa. Because that would’ve been interesting. Let’s feed them cucumbers!)

A couple of fun moments where a corpse comes to life, is judged human by it’s orthodontic work and Jack thinks it was going to kiss Gwen. Plus they call things homunculi. (In their proper folkloric context. Well, aside from the fact homunculi aren’t supposed to grow…)

I found Captain Jack gets kneed in the balls far too amusing than I should have…
And there’s some nice Tosh and Ianto interaction…

Then, we learn that the homunculi need testosterone to grow and thus, only the guys have little mucous babies growing in their throats, which leads to some jokes about pregnancy and I was totally expecting Captain Jack to say “Not again.”
It took a bit too long though, for the oestrogen injection. Also, I can’t remember how long it takes for blood to make a complete circuit around the body, but I think it’s something like 5 or 2 minutes which I think is a bit too long for them to take shots in the arm.

Ummm and that’s it. The parting note does include inter-galactic lawyers though.
