Curiosity killed the cat..

I'm just randomly wondering... is there really that much difference between a hickey and a vacumn produced bruise?
Or does a hickey specifically need teeth marks?
Or can any haematomia produced by vacumn be called a hickey?
Onto other ponderings.
I watched the tail-end of The Frighteners this night. Filmed in New Zealand I-don't-know-when it was a laugh and a scare kind of movie.
Pretty good, not scary enough to give me nightmares. (The only things that ever did give me nightmares were Labryinth and Beetlejuice when I was four.)
Although I am straing my brain a little as I'm sure it's somewhere on a recomended movies list.
Beh.
Oh and I was wandering the Tutorials over at Deviant art, stumbled across a Kai-chan's tut on her materials and, as I was making my way down the list, noticed a lot of materials bought in New Zealand.
Well no duh because she's from New Zealand.
BUT she's one of the more famous fanartists out there. Or at least... her FMA work is. Her "No I am NOT gay *Roy-in-a-miniskirt thought*" comic is like posted... Everywhere.
And then there's her adaption of the FMA novel in which Ed runs up to Roy while he's flirting and says "Daddy!"
Which is utterly adorable. Well... Not so much her artwork but the actual circumstance.
Yesh, I'm a sucker for father!Roy fics. *nods* Well... any type of fluff really, not too much into angst.
OMG, so that's why I like yaoi fics some much more that EdWin ones![/sarcasm]
Seriously though.... more writers = more variety = more non-angst
Yes, I know I still read angsty stuff.
But think about it.... Winry's going "Whine whine whine, we're destined to be together, dun leave meh!!!11!one" on one hand and then there's Roy/Ed/Al going "Gumble grumble, I'm a monster/done too many horrible things/I could've done things better, I deserve to die, why the HELL did I have to fall in love with you?"
*shudders at EdWin angst* I think there have been very few EdWin fics that I was ever fangirling over... I don't know and I don't feel like going through my memories.
Anyway... this has turned into a random rant about father!Roy and then into a mighty crusade against EdWin. *shudder*
Still, I won't be swayed from my position that any major yaoi pairing (with the exception of Roy-Havoc, and non-fluffy/uber-friends Mae-Roy) is better than EdWin.
Oh! And did I mention the crack?! Yes, the crack is good. (Roy and Ed accidently signing a fake marriage certificate and then signing a real one? Priceless)
KuroIshi (Or IshiSaki..) with BOTH generations? Yes, the crack is good.
And I can read it and then wibble over Ishida being an absolute dork with Orihime. *sigh* Much love for that crack/serious fic combination.
*sighs again over Ishida*
*fumes over absence of non-mains* *pouts*. Yes, that again. *tries to find something good to read and fails*
I procrastinate too much.
Night. Even though I would love to rant more about how I like sitting on the fence.

Date: 2006-12-26 04:28 pm (UTC)And then, of course, I find myself in this damned extended flashback and suddenly I'm actually FEELING for her, which is really a tricky thing for me. >_> (Especially when I default to EdxRoy often), and I'm wondering now, if it's Winry that I've disliked, or just how little I saw her character utilized in the anime? It's a bit better in the manga, certainly, but in the anime I just feel like she.... just wasn't utlized.
I'm big into Father!Roy myself, too. :)

Date: 2006-12-27 02:13 am (UTC)However, in the anime, there were some points where she was cool. Mostly through interaction with lesser characters though.

Date: 2006-12-27 02:30 am (UTC)I usually stay within oneshots and drabbles for my EdWin, less of a chance for something like proposing happening. I think I have some sort of internal radar for sorting out things like that.
Gen fics are usually good. Especially when they're nice and introspective... << Like yours.
But I agree, Winry wasn't used to the fullest extent her character could. I think, actually, it was in one of the OVA; Homunuculi vs. Alchemists, that they actually showed how much she meant to the Elrics.
Her character definitely needs to be used better in both media though. I know in the anime there were some good 'character' scenes where she was actually quite tolerable and proved a point. Other times she just provoked humor though.
Manga contains way more angsty scenes, which I think is definitely part of her psyche.
Listening to music which just reminds me of people being part has probably made me more understanding of Elrics being away from their world/home but there is still a bit of Winry concerning the Elrics which I don't particularly like.
Father!Roy rules. Fullstop. I think I formulated a longer response than you did... ^-^;;;

Date: 2006-12-27 05:31 am (UTC)Nuuuuuu! I am dethroned!!!! XD
Your thoughts are definitely interesting. :) One of the reasons I fail at oneshots is that I want to just KEEP GOING, or I have so much backstory I can't possibly fit it all in one story.
You'll have to tell me how you feel about my ToT!Winry as my little adventure goes on. She's not a character I can 100% feel for yet, but I think part of that will come in time as I explore her, since we really didn't find out much about early/young Winry from the series other than emotional points here and there, so I'm trying to run free and just see where she goes.
And I hadn't even thought about that OVA until you brought it up, but that is DEFINITELY a good example of showcasing how much she meant to the Elrics (or at least touchign on it more than the series did). I really think the fact I saw anime!Winry far before I knew Manga!Winry has sort of shaded the character poorly for me, because as you said: she really wasn't used to the fullest extent of her character, and to some extent, that's sort of a sad thing, considering Ed and Al grew up with her, and yet we're supposed to believe they didn't see her for.... 3-4 YEARS? C'mon. (This won't be so in ToT, damnit!) She certainly wasn't prominant in more than a handful of character scenes, and usually she simply served as a foil for Ed (which can be said of anime!Al in many ways as well).
It would actually be sort of ironic if I started to like Winry more because of my own cursed fiction, since I didn't plan/desire to involve her anyway, wouldn't it?
If you like Father!Roy, I think you'll like ToT!Roy, btw. I'm excited for you to "meet" him once we get to that point. :D

Date: 2006-12-27 07:54 am (UTC)And thank you NZ NCEA creative writing for demanding that work is short and full of meaning. (You're expected to have around 200 words at level 1 with about half a dozen requirements.)
That and I like working with one concrete idea.
And don't worry, I should remember to tell you what I think about her.
*nods* I think that OVA is probably the best animated evidence of her meaning so much to them.
And I think I must have been concentrating rather weirdly on an aspect on the anime as I saw a rather apathic want to go back to Rismbool, back home and back to Winry. They wanted to be little kids again but they were too tangled up in their quest and all the other things around them including growing up.
We know that Ed tried to write a letter to her at least once. I actually think that the Elrics thought about her more than she did them, even if it was probably subconciously most of the time.
I do like manga!Al better than anime!Al, he's definitely more assertive and there are many things that just nagged me in the anime that are realised in the mnaga. (The whole passing through the gate = knowledge and then the body which is lingering there)
And that would be ironic. But there are many things which contain more possible ironicy than that.
But now I can't wait. T_T

Date: 2006-12-27 11:02 pm (UTC)Mine, edited, is 1500.
Anyway. Yes, manga!Al is more assertive than anime!Al. In the manga he acts like Ed's the little brother quite a lot of the time. He's also more angsty.
I haven't seen the OVA. I see I must.

Date: 2006-12-28 01:12 am (UTC)And Vicki'll ask you to trim that down you know if it is your creative writing.
Yeah, we like the anime!Al that went off on his own and met Fletcher, but not the hormonal!armour one who pondered upon his existance and fought a lot with Ed.
And I shall stop before I go into fangirl mode over Al.
Do! The OVA we're talking about is Homunculi vs. Alchemists!
