1. Tea (mainly because of that one icon)
That one icon that I had for my default for ages. And only recently switched out of.Because Yuuko wasn't getting enough love
I had this icon as my default, mostly because I'd sometimes comment to a community which wasn't anime/manga based and I felt really stupid using an anime/manga icon. So I had one stock icon, and, since my previous default was some pretty pink flowers and also stock, I made it my default.
Also, jasmine tea is perfectly fine if you don't let it brew for more than twenty minutes.
2. Torchwood
I have been rambling about it a lot recently, haven't I? ^__^; And it's relatively new seeing as I only started watching it about half a year ago.
Knowledge of its existence actually goes about... two years back? I was looking up the mytical Kinsey scale on Wikipedia and by a bit of link hopping through sexuality and styles of love, I ended up looking up this TV show that had everyone as bisexual and one particular character as pansexual. I didn't quite make the connection with Doctor Who at that time, but I think I stared at the page for half aminute before deciding it was totally cool and it was a shame that I'd probably never see it on NZ TV.
And then I practically bounced when I saw the listing for it in the newspaper.
Fits nicely into my "Love people, not who or what they are" ideology too.
3. Fai
I have absolutely no idea when I started liking Fai.
It may have been when I was watching the anime on internet TV and I caught an Outo episode and there was that 'Big Kitty, Little Kitty' thing and he was making comments from the sidelines when Syaoran and Kurogane fight the demons.
Really not sure on this, because I watched a bit of the anime, then a bit later read the manga -entirely batch reading some parts, the result of which is that I entirely too hazy on the original Acid Tokyo arc- then tried watching the anime again and somewhere between Acid Tokyo and Celes, I started fangirling him.
I have been peripherally aware of Tsubasa for... eight years now (yay for CCS fansites that then became combination Tsubasa sites) and that episode of Tsubasa that watched would've been around the time I was aware of Bleach, so... about three years ago I first watched it.
4. Bleach
I already have an entry about this! Kind of. I can't be bothered finding it though.
Basically, on Labour Day weekend about three years ago, I caught the first 20 episodes on internet TV. I had previously asked an online friend called Bleach99 why he username was such. Received the reply about it being an awesome manga.
Remembered this instance, and while the first episode I watched a bit of was actually 52 or something (the Don Kannonji one) and made me go "WTFH?!" subsequent watching of the first 20 cleared things up a bit more and made me want to actually watch it.
It also made me watch episode 4 more times than I cared. (I now do not wish to see that episode, or Minority Report, unless I absolutely have to.)
And then... 5 months later I decided to actually knuckle down and watch it and kind of accidently got most of my friends hooked on it. (Hi there
dawnduskdancer,
shadowsinfire,
3vil_m3xican,
nectariness,
flashinglites and
monkeyturtle!!) Those lunchtimes were fun.
We got caught up several months later... during that time we had gotten started on the manga (I think). I don't think we need to go any further, except to say that we kinda still do need Bleachathons, except they'll be hell to organise.
Also, we corrupted several teachers into reading it. We are awesome like that.
5. Reading
Um... I like books? I will read absolutely anything, including shampoo bottles and the sides of cereal boxes?
Strangely, I went through a not reading period when I was 7-9. I still read, just I didn't go to the library much.
Previous to that, I could read at 4 (and not even those wussy primers! Those Golden collection books!) but my handwriting and spelling was TERRIBLE. (I should scan in some of my writing from then, it's quite amusing.)
When I was 12-15 I read LOADS, setting my records for numbers of books gotten out from the library. (32?) May have accidentally gotten a previously shy reader to read? I'm not sure.
That faded off as I had school work to do. Tapered back up as I got into fandom more. Went back to books recently, as I was getting tired of my current fandoms and, while seeing what's hot and what's not each new anime season is good to find some new fandoms, books are still so much more heartable.
Had a bit of a period where I was hanging out with too many wannabe authors and wouldn't touch fantasy with a stick. Or at least adult fantasy. Still suffer from that a bit. (Also, I will never, ever, ever want to get a literature degree. I can analyse films, advertising and art to death, but I will not sacrifice reading for pleasure.)
Erm... yes, strangely a book fen, even though I am mostly involved with the anime/manga crowd. (I put it down to the fact that books are wonderfully special because you construct the characters yourself, and I don't think I could bear sullying those constructions with other people's ideas about them. And some books simply don't require a fandom and are perfect in of their own. (Although a bit of discussion can't go awry.))
Wow... that was long. Will do a short book post and another meme and maybe a dreamlog later on. After some sleep.
Also, Tamsin, my family is going to see your play tonight.
