Seeing as those are the two books I would suggest reading first, I think I only have Neverwhere and any collection of his short stories to recommend. Oh! And Good Omens too, though it was co-written with Terry Pratchett. (Which means, even though it borrows religious characters, is pure fun.) American Gods is a bit weird; it wanders and is squicky in places. But for non-book recommendations, I HIGHLY recommend MirrorMask, the movie he wrote. Then there is The Sandman for which I would recommend all of it but to perhaps start with The Dream Hunters.
I would also ask Rhiannon on what she thinks you should read.
