So, today in course we learnt about game meat.
And we learnt that, in order to be tender(er) and tasty, game needs to be hung/aged for a few days up to several weeks.
This made me frown.
Because in sword and sorcery fantasy, everyone knows that rabbit is tough and STRINGY but still edible if you've just killed it.
This does NOT make sense.
Yes, it will be tough (but oh so tasty) because it is wild (which could be mitigated by long, slow cooking) but it will be EVEN TOUGHER if you don't allow the carcass to relax out of rigor mortis.
This fact will now annoy me whenever I read that situation in a story.
I watched the Sarah Jane Adventures episodes 'The Temptation of Sarah Jane' today and yesterday. They were very good episodes and I wish I had remembered to record them.
There will be a book post shortly.
QI, the hilarious chat/game/trivia show will be showing in New Zealand, on Prime at 9:30 on Sundays.
Related to above, vaguely, Torchwood is showing (again) on UKTV. Saturdays, following Doctor Who and its confidential.
On a tangent, the show that used to be in that slot, Hex, had an awesome last episode in which the lesbian ghost Thelma got to be slightly mushy with her former roommate/obvious crush who was carrying the baby of the devil. The program before THAT was about a descendant of Van Hellsing and also featured demons.
Torchwood will seem rather un-supernatural compared to those two.
