Sorry, sorry and I apologise for the flood of stuff. (And anyway, this is shorter and more reviewy. I'll try and keep it non-spoilery as well.)

Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin

Yes, as the (horrible) title should tell you, it's a vampire story.
I've read the Darren Shan saga, Nightworld series (L.J. Smith), the Twilight series, Vamped (by someone whose name I can't even pronounce), a couple of Buffy novelisations (plus a smattering of episodes) and Peeps (Scott Westerfield).
I'm not sure if it's because any vampire story that isn't utterly serious or horrifying ends up being slightly silly and OTT but this is definitely silly and a bit OTT in places.

But anyway, this book is more serious than sappy and has some fun moments where the vampire actually has a sense of humour. (At least one of the jokes is lewd too!)

There's Jaz, the very temperamental assassin who has a heap of troubles, most of which are related to her family, who is 'assistant' to Vayl, the vampire half of their little two man assassination squad.

The whole series apparently has some over-arching story about the Raptor, a vampire who wants to rule the world by making weres, withches and vamps work together, which I find kind of... boring. However, the plot for this book is not boring and everything is actually kind of fun. (Vayl's ex-wife is chasing after them, there's a terrorist group running around the place and someone's trying to kill Jaz.)
Even the romance part is all right. Jaz (the entire story is pretty much told from her first-person perspective) admits she's got the hots for Vayl in the first 20 pages. Vayl pretty much does the same in the first 50. There is no long arduous 'I love you! But I shouldn't!' although there is goop.
But no sex. Just lots of shooting and general butt-kicking.

A couple of highlights for included knowing what someone doing a soft-shoe dance in an elevator is like (I gather from this and the next book preview that she knows at least two different types of dancing) and Vayl's swordcane, which is simply awesome. As swordcanes generally are. (This is also where I go TT__TT because they're a weapon and you can't own them without having to fill out a lot of paperwork. Otherwise my dad would have one.)

So er, recommended if you don't mind vampire stories, don't mind goop and like action and giggling out loud.
