grassangel: Missy looking reproachfully at viewer, book in hand (book)

Ooof, things have obvious er... gotten hot enough about The Watch casting that Rhianna Pratchett had to state she’s no longer personally involved (though Narrativia is)

and my thoughts are sort of generally in line with this post, which is that while I am glad that the casting is diverse and am cheering that the actors got the parts, I am very very much looking askance at the casting director and producers for the particular choices they made for which characters. Like yay for a non-binary actor, but why not a trans woman actress? And I do sincerely hope that Sybil casting is only one half of the character’s casting and they’re keeping the time travel/alternate universes bit so that this is only a young Sibyl. (Never mind that Carcer should be a mirror of Vimes, just like Lily is that of Esme.)

Anyway, I’ll just be here, examining the questions I was asked when the BBC fan panel did surveys about the series and moaning that while I’d only mentioned Angel Coulby because I wanted to mention at least one other name, she’d actually be quite good

eta: And apparently even dudes who play MPQ (so a generally decent bunch of middle-aged, mostly white men who aren’t terribly sexist/racist, but aren’t exactly the most ‘woke’), are going “Sybil should be fatter and older!” and being torn about the Cherry/Cheery casting. also, some are disappointed that apparently Carrot joins the Watch after Angua does (which, fair! I am too, cuz that just falls into tired old tropes of the dude being better at the thing the woman’s been doing longer than he has.)
grassangel: Missy looking reproachfully at viewer, book in hand (shut up - I'm reading)
So, just over half a year ago, I saw the movie of MSK at the behest of, and with, one of my friends. It was okay, except I ended up hating the mother and thought the end was justifiable, even though it’s pretty much the complete opposite of what it is in the book.

The book itself… I could’ve done without the first half. It was rather slow and the movie pretty much followed the book exactly except there is more stuff from the minor/secondary characters in the book. )

After about two and a half years sitting on the coffee table, I finally finished Thud!.
I seem to have this problem with Discworld books – I start them and get to halfway and then… just leave them for a week, a couple of years. )

Now… to finish Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox, The Fox, Unseen Academicals, I Shall Wear Midnight and Second Glance. Not in that order, but those are all the ones that I’ve started that I have to hand. Two of which are being lent to me.

There will be a fic post later. (First time in over a year~ oh god) Possibly just a link pointing to my fic comm, but maybe backed up here too.

BUT ANYWAY.

I found one of Torchwood's only g-rated fics. Reception Difficulties

It was crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] tardis_children, which is the cutest little comm in that it's for child friendly fic and discussion and things people have done with their kids and things their kids have done concerning Doctor Who.
There is a gorgeous illumination-style picture of the Bad Wolf.
There are some that I wouldn't let a five year old read because of big words and situations that I would just plain feel skeevy giving them to read or have read to them, but in general, it is very nice comm full of things to show to under-12s and perhaps a starting point for those a little older.

Oh and for those who are rather a bit older and just don't want to read porn.
(The second link there by the way, is a rather awesome Torchwood/Discworld crossover featuring the Nac Mac Feegle.)

Me again. I have been entry happy recently with nothing of much content, haven't I? Must post -final battle- sometime.
And if someone else would like to beta the edited versions of two of my IshiHime fic entries (I don't beta-beta most of my work before posting it here, especially if it's something completed on the fly) and two Clow/Yuuko fics, feel free to ask for my Gmail address. Unless you already know it. Which about half of my flist already does.
*glares at Rhiannon*

Anyway onwards!

Pure random: In Japan, the Kit Kat is popular as a chocolate bar and comes in 'weird' flavours. I only say 'weird' because I actually would like to try an apple flavoured Kit Kat.
And they apparently also have red bean flavoured ones... which may or may not be available from vending machines. *has a horribly roly-poly Orihime idea in her head*

Also, cross cousins and parallel cousins make my head spin. As does Consanguinity.
